The Weekly Slice #100
A milestone, a thank-you giveaway, and 10 things I’ve learned along the way
Happy Monday! ✨
How was your weekend? Ours was filled with basketball, a pool party with friends, gardening, and chasing chickens that managed to escape the fence.
But what I’m really focused on today is that this is my 100th newsletter!
While I’m newer to the Substack platform, the fact remains that I’ve written 100 newsletters and it has quickly become one of my favorite ways to connect with you during this busy season of life.
In honor of this milestone, let’s do a giveaway!
But first, I want to reflect on 10 things I’ve learned after writing 100 newsletters.
Consistency matters more than perfection.
Some weeks are polished and some weeks are more scatterbrained, but that’s ok. It’s the showing up that counts. The simple things are often the most helpful.
A quick dinner idea, a read aloud we loved, a routine that’s working, or a product that solves even a tiny annoyance can be just as valuable as an elaborate post.People connect most with honesty.
It’s so tempting to want to be an expert, and while I’ve learned so much as the years have ticked by, I’m still mostly figuring it out as I go. I’m grateful to get to share that process with you.Meal planning truly makes life feel calmer.
It doesn’t solve everything, but knowing what’s for dinner takes one more decision off my plate at the end of the day. Even if it’s leftovers or something from the freezer- the fact that it’s planned makes the difference.Family rhythms shift, and that’s okay.
What worked in one season may not work in the next. Kids grow, schedules shift, needs change, and we get to adjust along the way.Homeschooling has taught me as much as it has taught my kids.
Trusting the process, having connection at the core, and the ability to pivot have become just as important as any curriculum choice.Health is built in small, repeatable choices.
It’s not flashy, but I’ll be darned, it is what works. It’s the balanced meals, walks, sleep, water, conversations, and daily habits that slowly add up.Community is created through the little exchanges.
A kind word, a shared recipe, a “same, girl, same”—those small connections are what make this space feel meaningful (thank you). It’s okay to let things evolve.
This newsletter, my blog, motherhood, homeschooling, family life, and I’m sure all of us—we’re allowed to grow and change. In fact, we must.I’m deeply grateful you choose to spend a few minutes here.
In a world full of notifications and full inboxes, it means so much that you open these emails, read along, reply, and continue to be a friend. Some of us have been hanging out for 15+ years and wow, that is simply amazing to me.
To celebrate my 100th newsletter, I’m doing a little thank-you giveaway! One winner will receive a prize package of a few of my favorite things:
To enter, leave a comment below and tell me what you’d love to see more of in future newsletters—recipes, meal planning, homeschool updates, family life, travel, favorite finds, healthy habits, or anything else.
Giveaway closes June 7, 2026 at 9:00 PM and the winner will be announced and contacted by email on June 8, 2026. Open to U.S. readers 18+.
Recommendations of the Week
What I’m Loving: My stovetop steamer. I spent years messing with the expandable pot insert steamer baskets or resorting to the microwave to steam veggies, when I really should have just invested in this steamer pot from the start. It makes excellent broccoli, yes, but also artichokes, dumplings, eggs (it actually makes elite boiled eggs), and more.
What David is Loving: This shirt for summer. I think he now owns it in 3 colors. And I get why- it’s super quick-drying/moisture-wicking, lightweight, and UV blocking. And it honestly just fits super well.
What My Tween/Teen Girls Are Loving: Dominion. This deck building game has been a favorite of ours for 2+ years now, but we hadn’t played it in a while. We brought it to the beach and everyone got rehooked- such a fun family game! Plays in 30-40 minutes, ages 10+.
Three Meals I’m Making This Week
Crispy chicken thighs with roasted yellow potatoes and steamed broccoli with a lemon butter herb sauce
Fajita rice bowls with guacamole and charro beans
Steaks with chimichurri sauce and roasted beets, onions, and sweet potatoes
Hope you have a fantastic week,
Brittany

Would love to read more about weekly meals - maybe a Friday meal post about how the week went meal wise?
I didn't realize you could comment on your newsletters! I always just read them in my email. :) I responded to the email but will also put it here so you have everything in a consolidated form. My favorite posts of your recipes, meal planning posts, the monthly grocery spending you did a year or so ago and your daily life posts. You feel like a friend and your newsletters and blogs are my favorites to read. Thanks for choosing to stay authentic and genuine in this space. :)
